Things Every Home Based Business Owner Owner Needs To Realize Regarding The Shiny Object Problem
One of the greatest enemies to business success is the Shiny Idea Syndrome. You as an entrepreneur are likely highly creative, intuitive and upbeat by nature, and it’s likely common for you to have a mind full of new ideas at any particular moment.
You see potentially profitable ideas where many others don’t and the trouble crops up when you would like to bring all of the ideas to life in your home based business at the same time. It may be tricky for you to say no to following a new concept or opportunity when it’s presented as you love new and exciting ideas!
Some days you may feel you are chasing after many ideas at the same time while achieving no real progress on any one of them.
In order to beat Shiny Idea it is important to pick ONE concept and focus your undivided attention on it. Of all the ideas you have in your head right now, which one has the capability to make you the most money? This is the idea you need to focus your entire attention, energy and resources on.
A lot of other superb ideas and opportunities will come your way as you focus on bringing your best ideas to life, but until that happens, keep a running “Great Idea/Opportunity” list where you can store a record of those items for attention later.
All those great ideas and opportunities are pointless to you if you can’t bring them to full completion within a useful time frame.
With your best idea at the forefront, decide on the way to implement a structured plan. Map your intention into bite-size, manageable pieces and once done, focus your attention on completing the initial step. Only when you’ve completed that step, move on to the next.
Keep under consideration, across the process diversions will surround you. When presented with a possibility, albeit a very good one, learn how to say no if it takes you away from your primary goal.
It’s often hard for business people to say no but chasing vast numbers of opportunities concurrently will only put you more and more behind.
Hence where do you begin today? Here is a temporary guideline to help you along:
1. Make a catalogue of all the concepts and opportunities on your to do list right now.
2. Pick the one which will make you the most money and develop a controllable plan to finish it.
3. When distractions arise, ask yourself, “Will this bring me closer to my goal or take me farther away from it? “
4. If they take you away from your primary goal, learn how to say no.
