Work From Home And Letting Others Work In Your Property – Benefits and Pitfalls
It’s surprising how having the delivery of a parcel to your home can disrupt your daily routine. I’m talking here about the sort of parcel that needs to be signed for, so you have to be in when the delivery happens. Equally as bad can be arrangements with trades people who are to carry out work at your home. Fortunately for me I work from home so things can be somewhat easier. I don’t have to arrange time off work or rely on a neighbour. What is more, because lots of my work from home is online jobs I can quite easily suspend what I am doing when the doorbell rings.
Last month however I hit a problem. I had engaged an interior decorator to spend a week painting my lounge. These arrangements can be ideal when you work from home but these particular arrangements backfired on me due to the distraction caused. It’s easy to imagine that your work from home will proceed serenely whilst a tradesman does his bit, but not so on this occasion. Although the most dedicated and affable of individuals, the tradesman turned out to be habitually noisy. So much so that his presence was a significant distraction from my work from home jobs.First off his work was accompanied by loud transistor radio sport commentary, which I tolerated for a while but then had to ban. This only then precipitated whistling, singing and an almost constant need for a conversation. Eventually I consented to the radio going back on.
All in all my productiveness must have declined as a result. I certainly seemed to spend noticeably more time at my computer than I usually do. The moral of the tale would seem to be check out your tradesman first. Hire someone who has done work for someone you know, and get a noise report before you engage!
